Friday Q&A with a Bali resident Amelia

This week with Amelia Manika

Where are you from, how old are you, how long you been in Bali?
I’m from Singaraja Bali. Born and raised here and I’m 25 years old.

Single or hooked up?
Yes, I am in a relationship.

How did you first get into electronic music? Like, was there a certain moment it all made sense?
When I was young, like in mid-high school I was already into electronic music.

Was there a particular track or something that got you into electronic? Like, where did you hear electronic music back then?
I have liked all kinds of music since I was a child. My mother bought me a cassette full of foreign songs, she was surprised at how I preferred music cassettes with foreign songs rather than children’s songs. And now I’m a DJ since 2015, and I love and enjoy my job.

What do you think makes electronic music so good?
It can change my mood and make me smile.

Do you produce music?
Yes, I make music. My music is more like a mixture of pop music with psy-trance beats with a massive bass that gets your body moving.

What’s your favourite area in Bali to hang out (day-time)?
I like going to fresh air areas like Kintamani or Bedugul and chill.

What’s your favourite place in Bali at night (where you don’t work)?
At night? I don’t often hangout on my day off. Just sit in the studio getting ideas.

What do you do in your spare time? Any other interests?
I like making music in my spare time, or sometimes I’m doing youtube/tiktok content.

Where are you a resident, or regular DJ?
I am a resident at Sky Garden Bali at the moment.
