Date for 2: Mejekawi

Perched atop the must-visit beachfront venue in Petitenget, Mejekawi at Kudeta is a whole experience of its own. Featuring stunning 180-degree view over the Indian Ocean and beach club below, an uber-inventive culinary journey and equally as impressive wine-pairing will have you leaving mind boggled yet incredibly content. Mejekawi encompasses all the right attributes for a perfect date-night location – the romance levels are through the roof! You’ll understand once you’ve arrived.

When you sit down at a restaurant and the complimentary bread has you drooling and moaning… you realize you’re in for something special! This is exactly what happened, as we took our seats on the veranda overlooking the last rays of the sunset, we glanced at the menu and looked up at each other, in total excitement. My favourite way to enjoy food is with a loved one, sharing the excitement of every bite. The menu features a five-course menu (Rp 700,000++) or the full tasting menu (Rp 1,200,000++). We opted for the five courses with wine pairing (Rp 1,200,000++) and some added treats from Head Chef Stephen Moore.

Mejekawi translates to sacred table in Balinese, which is pretty much how it felt once the food started arriving. We started off with delicacies like the Scallop Ceviche served in a mini cucumber along with pomelo sambal and pink peppercorn. The wrapped Drunken Crystal Prawns followed, paired with a fine Matua Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. It just kept getting better though, as Chef Steve brought out special creations like a Brioche Doughnut served with sugar cured salmon and cultured cream that was to die for, as well as a decadent Nori Farfalle with chilli mussels and prawn head crackers. 100% Yum!

Once we got past Part III of the menu and devoured the Grilled Swordfish, my stomach was thanking me for my life choices. We feasted on a delicious pescatarian menu thus far and I was more than satisfied, but I couldn’t go without trying the esteemed 48-hour organic Short Rib. Literally, a melt-in-your-mouth experience from start to finish, and my favourite of the entire journey. A must-try.

Dessert was as interesting and diverse as the courses beforehand, featuring an Apple & Celery sorbet space ship with coconut yoghurt and black olive as well as a Sesame and White Chocolate dollop with roasted pineapple jam and a caramel snap! Simple, elegant and outright delicious. Need I say more!

Mejekawi should be on your list if you are looking for an incredible date for two!
