Kadek Puja Astawa

Born in Singaraja, Kadek Puja Astawa is a photographer who is willing to adapt the demands of photography. Human interests and landscape photography has remained his two favorite fields. He believes that humanity and nature speak a unique ‘language’ through their own natural traits, and if paired with well-conceived lighting, can encapture a form of visual art. See his works at Pullman Bali Legian Beach until October 2.
How was your journey to become a photographer?
I started to learn photography in 2004. Then, I deepened my knowledge on photography at one of the institutes in Bali.
What motivates you to continue working in the world of photography?
What motivates me is actually pride. It’s when we have works that can then be enjoyed by others. In photography, I can feel this satisfaction. Meanwhile, the moment that I capture this time can always be enjoyed in the next few years. Everything will change.
What are your favorite subjects?
They would have to be landscape and human interest. Fortunately, Bali has it all.
What makes a photo stand out from most photos? What characteristics do you often highlight in your works?
There are many factors, actually. However, the moment is what most photographers are looking for. For me, human activities are more interesting to be captured.
What do you want to convey through your works?
I would like people to see that we have a beautiful nature that we should protect. We also have an extraordinary culture that we have to preserve. Furthermore, to invite every human being to be more respectful.
