THERE THEN
Melodic Techno is big at Red Ruby on Saturdays and last night they were keeping the pace with visiting DJ producer UBBAH in the house. He’s from Argentina via Barcelona, where he now lives, and is mostly known for his involvement with Afterlife and Tale of Us, but he is also producing some solid tracks himself.
‘I am a regular touring artist, playing shows all around the world with Afterlife and close with Tale of Us, but I am still doing my own thing. However, the name sticks,’ he told The Beat last night before the gig.
‘I don’t suppose it hurts for promotional purposes,’ I suggested.
‘Yeah, but I’m not exactly playing a Afterlife set and I hope people coming for that aren’t disappointed,’ says the 30 year old who’s on a mini tour of Asia.
How did you get involved with Afterlife?
Initially, their interest in my music was about me doing something different from the rest, I was mixing melodic techno with retro and synthwave sounds and they liked it. After that they decided to give me a spot inside the Afterlife family.
So what kind of music will you be playing tonight?
‘A mix of different sounds, but of course, mainly melodic techno.’
Where’s the best place you have been playing in recent times?
I’d have to say in Orange. An incredible, ancient stage from Roman times. It’s a beautiful spot and great atmosphere. I have played bigger venues with thousands of people, but that Orange one in France is very special.
Does your set change with a smaller crowd like this in Red Ruby?
‘You know, they look like they are up for some fun so I will give them a bit of variety. It’s all about the journey right’
After an initial issue getting the decks working and music started UBBAH proceeded to lay down banger after banger with their dips, cressendos and huge drops just the way the Red Ruby crowd loves it.
Great night.
