Secret Comedy Night back for 2024 – shh, it’s a secret!

Secret Comedy Night has taken Bali by storm since starting over a year ago. It’s Bali’s only curated stand-up comedy show featuring Bali’s best comedians and a special international headliner on each occasion.

One of the exciting parts of this comedy show is that the location is kept secret right up until the guest buys a ticket. Beforehand, the location of each event is narrowed down (e.g. “Canggu”, “Seminyak”, “Ubud”, etc) and you decide which show you want to attend.

I asked Anggita, Bali-based producer from Secret Comedy Night, why is it a secret?

“All our past shows have sold out and sadly we’ve had to turn people away at the door. Hence why now the location is kept a secret, and a limited number of tickets is exclusively available in our IG’s bio @secretcomedynight and website secretcomedynight.com,” she told The Beat.

Well, booked out every night is not a terrible situation to have! There must be something going for it.

“I think the reason it’s been a hit so far is because we care a lot about our audiences down to every little detail of the show. We know that going out to any show is time out of their day and we want to respect that, so we always aim to genuinely connect our audiences with our artists through a carefully curated live comedy experience”, said Anggita. “Whether it’s through music, observational comedy, or in-the-moment crowd work, Secret Comedy Night works meticulously in striving to create an intimate space and a joyous night for audiences and performers alike.”

Secret Comedy Night moves around each week all over Bali. It is like a pop-up show, which could appear anywhere. Like, for example, over the next weeks SECRET COMEDY NIGHT is being held in Canggu, Umalas, Ubud, Seminyak and then Uluwatu.  To keep from flooding the shows, you will have to wait for your ticket to arrive before you know the exact location of the venue.

And how about the Secret Comedy Night comedians, what’s the story there, Anggita?

“We have an exciting lineup of Bali’s best comedians and also. sometimes musicians. All the shows are headlined by Los Angeles-based actor/comedian Omar Elba, who has been seen on Comedy Central, Showtime and the Netflix series ‘Mo’, amongst other film projects.”

Most of the venues are deliberately not very large, which creates the perfect intimacy for a comedy show. Of course, the audience needs to be focused to get the most out of the show, and at times, they can even become part of the show.  But don’t be scared, it’s all part of the fun! These guys are pros and know how to keep the smiles rolling.

The comedy is hilarious, and often unscripted so just about anything can happen. It is a top night out for anyone needing a laugh or two – and don’t we all need a good laugh when we can get it!
