Editorial. This week in Bali.

Well, it’s interesting to see the rain arrive back again last night with a vengeance. Right when I planned to repair the roof of my house. It’s all about timing, isn’t it? Just like what’s happening in world politics, and especially the US election right now. It’s so fascinating to watch – from a distance at least. From day to day, new, unexpected, things happen, like the comedian at Madison Gardens – talk about timing! It keeps one right on the edge of your seat. Pass me the popcorn please, there’s another week of it yet to come. Let’s hope it is at least orderly.

Last week was a busy time. Ian Charle’s birthday up at his Luna Beach Club was a definite highlight, not just because my old buddy was turning 50 big ones, but also I got the chance to spin some tracks for the first time in ages and what a blast that was. I first met Ian many years ago. He was a regular DJ at 66 back in the day. Always a great fan of his music, lovely guy and we had some great times over the years. The photos from the birthday also caused a bit of a stir among viewers on IG and other platforms. Some are also posted here.

Next night, Friday I was late arriving at the W Resort Bali for the launch of a new sunglass brand from Optik Tunggal, but not late enough to miss the open bar and the real action. Some old and new friends were found there and I must say, these surprise gigs make life in Bali so much more rewarding. Laughs, cheers and giggles. Later we ended up over at The Iron Fairies and their Tinka show – that is always a great night on Fridays.

Saturday was another big one with the cut down version of Foster the People at Mrs Sippy. I was hoping for a more indie music type DJ set, and while they did play some of their own tracks, maybe all of them, I don’t really know, they were spinning some old, heard a million times type tracks, which I didn’t really get. Why bother? We had a great time, in any case, with a bunch of us on a couple of daybeds chatting and dancing away like mad. You know, Mrs Sippy is just a great spot to hang out. Later I ended up in Phoenix, but that is another story!
