So here we are, on the back of the White Party and Hari Merdeka, next stop New Year’s Eve! Well, maybe there are a few more happenings before then and now, but yeah, we are now truly on the back half of the year as 2024 continues to steam on!
This week’s weekly podcast with ST and Dante.
Speaking of the White Party, of course we were there wining and dining courtesy of Pak Gil and friends. Was it business associates, or just getting down to business? Party business, that is! It was a great night and once again the Ku team didn’t hold any punches in concept, production and styling with Nicole Moudaber’s set chugging away for most of it. Everyone dressed in white sets the scene, and the large crowd on both sides of the fence looked like they were enjoying themselves. The Eyes White Shut crowd were out to play, and they were making the most of it.
I like to walk my dogs along Batubelig Beach, which is the closest beach to where I live, and have been doing that for many years. I noticed heavy machinery and workers appearing one day, and then the next day the warungs and bars began being pulled down and construction began on a pedestrian promenade along the top of the beach. Shock horror. Indeed. While they could be fixing, or widening Batubelig Road itself to help with the terrible traffic they decide to improve, or is it mess up, the beach instead. I didn’t see or hear any consultation with local businesses or the general public on the subject, but I’m sure there must have been some. But anyway, progress moves along as it always does on the island and I was down there last Sunday afternoon after I had heard that 707 had moved to Tropicola. At a loose end, I went to take a look and I was pleasantly surprised to find the new 707 looking pretty good and firing up with the sounds of Shammui. It is now temporarily stationed in the front part of Tropicola, not the entire place, and it was really a cool scene and having the grass under your feet was a bonus. With some of the old crowd down there boogying around you could say it was actually even better than before. Let’s face it, the old 7 was getting pretty manky! Sometimes progress can even bring a positive. It is still hard to say what is going to happen down there with the new promenade, I can’t imagine what W and Pot Head think about it, but one thing is for sure, it will be a totally different beach experience in a few months’ time.
