Editorial. This week in Bali.

It’s the first of August already. The year is racing. That means the Bali High Season has begun – or should have.  I hear from people around town that it is getting busy. Since I am bunkered down in my Berawa radio shack most of the time it is hard to say from here what’s going on out there, just venturing out on the bike is a mission, but I am told by the venues it is getting very busy. And no doubt, that’s good for everyone. Right now, it seems there is only one big show to watch out for around the Hari Merdeka weekend (August 17) and that’s the KUDETA White Party. Keep an eye on the events pages on this site to see what happens.

We were in Midaz on Jalan Petitenget last Saturday night. There for Ms Julia’s birthday, the alsoy had an afro house event on, which was a load of fun. Not sure where they found the main act who made a bit of a mess of it. It sounded like he was using dodgy tracks TBH. But I must say, Midaz is a very solid venue, comfortable and luxurious, and with the right show I believe could really pop.

Now, did I hear someone mention influencers?

I notice there are a lot of influencers around the venues nowadays. Female influencers, that is. Men don’t appear to have a place amongst this new way of venue and event promotion. The women are there to influence men, of course, to come and drink in the hope of meeting one of them – like having your hottest dream girl from Instagram pop out live and possibly available to you on a Saturday night. Who could resist? They are more or less paid to stand around and look good. However, they seem to sit around in groups of friends not really participating in anything outside their group, like a pot of honey waiting for the king bee to arrive and kaplonk, fall into their lap. I suppose that is a form of influencing, influencing men with their charms to be there in the hope of finding a new girlfriend, or maybe receiving a kind gesture from a new female friend. I think we men have all been there at some stage, we have all had our weird experiences. Many men don’t possess the gift of the gab, so to speak, to walk up to a lady and initiate a chat, but they can buy a bottle and hope to impress them that way. And many men do just that, with a lot of women happy to sit down at the table and participate. The man is looking for a nice, attractive woman, the lady is hoping for a healthy provider. This is the ritual and this is the nightlife. I don’t think that will ever change. Meanwhile, the influencing female promoters are working the floor, selling tickets, giving away guestlists, looking good and receiving a commission from the venue while doing it. The cycle goes on, but women now make sure they aren’t losing along the way. They make money just being there and good luck to them, but I do wonder where it all leads in the end. Most probably less connection and less humility.

We would love to hear what you think and your experiences with these female influencers. Tell us in the below comments!
