Editorial. This week in Bali.

It’s fortunate I do this email every week, I don’t think I would be able to keep the calendar of events in order at all without it. And especially for the weekend coming up. So it’s a two pronged weapon this beast of an email and editorial. Something else I have noticed is that it is not a good idea to have a massive hangover doing both either. Last night I was over at The Mason house near the Benoa turn off, again with this time, Nigel and Yanie’s 40th anniversary. It’s funny how last week I was talking about anniversaries and their abundance in the nightlife lately and there you go, I was at another one, albeit this time a real one. They always put on great party and it’s a chance to catch up with load of the Bali oldies and youngies – as in the now grown up kids! BTW, something I just discovered (via old buddy Jan) is knocking back a glass of water with half a teaspoon of Bali Sea Salt stirred in it. Hangover gone!

Something else that has been keeping me busy lately is trying to get the almost lost podcasts I was doing with a variety of guests during Covid times back on air. It is quite a lot of work piecing them together and posting on our Youtube account – The Beat Bali. I also came across some, again, almost lost recordings of music I made with an old friend of mine, now deceased, Glenn Trinick. They were recorded on a pretty basic 4 track recorder in his front room in Fremantle in 1987. We had played music over many years, been in garage bands since teenagers together, but hadn’t seen each other for a while. These were new songs I had put together while in Margaret River, where I had been living for a year or so before this point. One practice and then record. For me it’s a slice of history, and for the listener, a chunk of the pretty raw, pub-rock style of music of the time―such sweet memories. Check the podcasts and tracks. All entertaining.

Tonight I will be talking to visiting DJ producer UBBAH, who is playing on Saturday night at Red Ruby. It was a great show last time he was in town last October and it’s sure to be busy tomorrow night too. Tune in to The Beat Radio Bali at 6pm to learn more about this Afterlife touring DJ.
