It appears the rubbish issue on the island has found a short term solution. Apparently, the new resolution of picking up organic waste twice a week that was nutted out after a hundred rubbish trucks protested out the front of the Governor’s office last month has had positive results for residents, but it still is only a short term solution as the rubbish dump still doesn’t have the space to handle it.
The future of the trash issue is hinging on the Waste to Energy incineration, which is said to be online in 18 months, but that too has its limitations; one being what to do with the final ash. A year and a half is still far away too and digging deeper it appears there is only one incinerator being built. It is said that it is enough for the Denpasar and Badung area and will be built in Suwung South Denpasar, next to the present rubbish tip.
In the meantime, the three Rs is about the only way forward – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. And this is basically the responsibility of everyone on the island, especially that reduce your consumption part. So get onto that folks – try to cut down your consumption wherever you can.
Here is an interesting video on what Singapore has done with their trash over the past few years and how they have used incinerators to solve the problem – for the moment.
Meanwhile, the numbers are in for Bali foreign tourist arrivals during the first quarter of this year, and while there was a 1.04 percent increase from the year before, for the first time since Covid at least, the numbers have decreased from January to February to March. The ongoing war in the Middle East could have something to do with it, but that didn’t start till the end of Feb, so there must be something more to it. The proliferation of bad news stories can not be helping, ie, the trash, the floods, the traffic. You name it, we have got it covered on this island! And it’s not exactly a great and growing reputation to behold. The funny and comforting thing, though is how Bali always manages to remain Bali. If you follow Bali threads on Reddit or somewhere, for example, there are always the naysayers, Bali haters, but the majority are true Bali believers and no matter what happens we continue believing, and the belief is Bali remains the best place to live on the planet. There has to be some adjustments as we go, but the story remains much the same as ever.
Photos Above: Random pics over the past week. My bro, Rorz was in town so doing a bit of touring around the hot spots, namely beaches – Dreamland, Jimbaran and Double Six.
Here’s a recent, interesting article about Indonesians being the most content people on the planet. It is something I have always said and the data is in. Have a read.
Have a good weekend you all!
