Editorial. This week in Bali.

So, we have another major war to deal with and I must say this one looks complicated. Let’s hope it is sorted out quickly and things get back to normal as fast as possible. It is bound to have a negative effect on tourism generally around the world and especially having two major airline hubs (if not more) between Bali and Europe right in the middle of the war zone we can expect an immediate slow down from that direction in any case. So what is the best thing we can do about it? Party, I would say!

And we did a bit of that over the past week.

First, back over Sanur way and to RTB, or Rumah Tanjung Bungkak, and my old friend and music journo from glorious hell, Dethu’s birthday. It’s always hard to say how old Dethu is as he keeps that info well under his hat! I think he said he was 35, but yeah, ok bro. All the old crew were there and great times were had once more.

During the early week I had a couple of old school friends visiting, which gave us the perfect excuse to have a look around town. We started in Ling Lings with their Taco Tuesdays – they have some tasty tacos down there, and I would recommend the fish one. They are 15k a pop. But get there early as they now turn it off at 7pm. That seems kinda early but ok, what can you say? Next door was next and we walked into The Forge. It has now changed hands to the folks that run Merah Putih and besides not seeing any Canadians around the place you wouldn’t or couldn’t notice any difference from before.

The GOAT was an unplanned stop but we couldn’t resist going in as when we passed by there was some sweet guitar being played by what turned out to be a guest Aussie fella up on stage blasting away on a borrowed guitar. The crowd loved it and so did we.  We drank some more and next stop was another Canadian strong hold in the Bali nightlife, Malverde! I couldn’t think of a better spot to enjoy your time with a few old mates in tow. It has everything you need for a lads night out. I must say it all gets rather expensive though but of course after a few drinks the flood gates open and there is no tomorrow so let the good times roll! It was quite a fun night.

Photos Above: Dethu’s birthday party at RTB – always fun. The feature photo up the top of the page shows Dethu and the new paddle ball court that officially opened that night at RTB too. Then me and me ol’ buddies going for a night out in Petitenget.

Make sure you read the interview with Wolo. He is an interesting guy and one day says he will be residing on our shores. He also makes a great piece of radio, Music Therapy Worldwide. Make sure you tune in early evenings, Friday, on The Beat Radio Bali.

Have a good weekend you all!
