Editorial. This week in Bali.

With the rains comes the flu. I have been under the weather this week, but managing to keep my chin up. It is the time of year for it, for sure, so nothing unexpected. Plenty of ginger tea and the occasional ibuprofen seems to help. But I’m no medical expert, so DYOR. I’m not exactly sure where I picked it (the flu) up, but possibly a busy weekend had something to do with it.

Friday night we had a bit of a shindig down at The Little Shop, where they were celebrating the 1st Anniversary of their brand, Billy Bao. You should all get down there and check what the girls are doing in fashion, some very creative stuff. More great times and tunes in the garden of Canggu Station and late night pizzas at Irma by Bacaro – the best pizzas in Berawa, maybe Bali.

Saturday things started early over at a charity dinner and show put on by Right Reasons, which was called A Roaring Night for Ragam at Alila Seminyak. The dress code was the Great Gatsby and while I arrived late for the early cocktail period, as is my usual penchant, and in something that vaguely aheared to the code, most of the attendees were dressed literally to the stripey nines. It was all in the aid of Ragam Foundation, who makes meals for underprivileged people around the island among other things. The final take for the night, from ticket entries, raffles and silent auction was approx Rp 250 million. Well done to all those involved.

Next stop was a little more raucous, and just up the road. The Red Ruby Anniversary is one of my fave nights at the home of house and techno, and this year’s edition in my humble opinion out-did all previous years. It had such an awesome energy about it right from the outset. As I walked in, I was thinking, wouldn’t they love it if they could get the same amount of people to the venue like this at this time normally. It was just after 10pm and the entire terrace was packed out. Obviously, the free nibbles and drinks helped the numbers along, but there was also a lot of old timers enjoying the moment among old friends too. Great atmosphere on the Terrace and just got better and better as the night went on. There was a full line-up of all the regular RR Djs, with each giving their all to make it happen. Head honcho DJ Jay Tays was trying something new, something heavier. Maybe it got a bit too left, or was it right, of centre, but it was all part of the journey, the journey to dawn for an amazing night at Red Ruby. We all luv ya, Rubes.

Sunday afternoon I was feeling a little peckish so I ventured down to a place I had heard spoken quite highly of in Berawa, near the markets, called Bakso Rudi. I checked out the reviews on Google and thought yes let’s try it. You know, bakso is not noramlly my main game plan when it comes to dining, but this one is kind of interesting. As you can see in the photos below they are biggest bakso ball ever and the kuah soup is quite tasty, but not really enough of it. I actually asked if they had a larger bowl. I ordered the Bakso Koplit 28k. Worth a try, and I would give it 3.5/5.

Watch out tonight, we are on our way north with Jean Marc’s OFF Format at Oshom Bali, which is an electronic music gathering for the next three days and nights. Come along and enjoy. Details are on the events pages.

Have a good weekend you all!
