This weekend looks like being a rather big one. Let’s hope the rain stops.
With my foot, my back, and my whatever, there are always a thousand reasons not to do anything, but this weekend looks promising. My daughter and her friends kick off the weekend tonight, Friday in South Berawa with the 1st Anniversary of their fantastic clothing label, Billy Bao. That’s at their tiny shop and mainly in the adjoining garden space in front of Canggu Station. If you were there last time at the opening of the store you will know what’s in store—and that was great times a few months ago. Everyone is welcome. Saturday we are back helping the Right Reasons charity at a dinner for the Ragam Foundation food charity, which is being held at Alila Seminyak from 6pm. That should be another fabulous night, and as always, we are doing it for the kids once more. Later that night, I imagine we will be venturing up the road to Red Ruby and their 8th Anniversary. That is another huge night in the Bali nightlife calendar and not to be missed. It really is the weekend of anniversaries this week, with Club Corazon celebrating their 1st Anniversary on Friday night in deepest Uluwatu and Sunday, Sundaze putting on a party for their 2nd Anniversary at Miss Fish, Berawa. There is plenty to celebrate this weekend!
Photos Above: Here are some snaps from our pleasant afternoon spent in Ubud and Cretya Sunset last Friday—before the drive back down (see below). A touristy moment on the beach, and the pleasure of seeing the Berawa shortcut being fixed and aspalted at last. I have some rather unplesant memories of that spot a couple of years ago and would like to remind people – take it easy on the roads,
Last Friday I got right out of my comfort zone and headed north to a media gathering north of Ubud at the newly openned Cretya Sunset. Fun times indeed learning how to make perfume from the experts and then wining and dining with the fun media people and the marketing team from Cretya. It was the first time I had been up that way and it was a very enjoyable afternoon in amazing surroundings, meeting new people and old friends. With the hot spring pools it is the ideal spot to be on these wet and wooly days in particular.
Unfortunately, my phone was dead when it came time to head down the hill again. I was on the bike and it was beginning to get dark – it had also been raining. Like other times coming back down the hill, I always think, I know my way down, no problem. However, once again, I got totally lost, and right in an area where I should have known better, but being dark and without Google maps anything can happen. At one stage, I ended up at the end of a dead-end road, but I knew I was close, this is easy, I said to myself – I back tracked, went left, went right, and straight ahead, but nothing looked familiar. I stopped twice and asked directions. The second time I asked a girl sitting in front of a convenience store, “Dimana (Where’s) Berawa?” feeling like a dumb, lost tourist, and she said, “It’s just there up the road!” I asked, what road is this, looking around, completely oblivious to where I was. “Jalan Kerobokan,” she said. I looked back around and suddenly everything became clear, like it appeared out of a haze – I was on a road I had been down a million times before, but I was looking at it from a completely different angle, lost in confusion. Wow, it was like I had just arrived from outer space, but in fact, I was almost home. I suppose the moral of the story is you never know what’s gonna happen next, and especially in this place, from the dark comes the light and from the unknown comes clarity. That’s what we hope for, of course.
Have a good weekend you all!
