There has not been much more to talk about than the weather lately. The floods this week around the southern parts of the island are yet another reminder that there needs to be more work done on infrastructural issues facing this island. And plainly they are not being addressed fast enough. However, I did see a mass of workers cleaning the under-footpath drains along Jalan Batubelig running down to the beach late Tuesday night, which appears to help to clear the water flooding Jalan Kerobokan. As a friend pointed out recently the drains they built along those roads are too small and grossly inadequate to handle the deluges we have witnessed lately. Now, it is hard to say how that can be improved in a hurry but keeping the drains clean and clear of debrie would definitely go a long way in helping.
The other thing I noticed this week is the amount of posts on social media about the flooding. From that deluge (of posts) you would think the whole place was under water, but let me assure you (the person reading this off the island) it was not. The flooding is in specific areas – and areas that obviously need some more attention in the near future. We can only hope that the authorities get onto it quickly.
A couple of evenings this week I tried to get out, but with the rain bucketing down at times it was just not worth the trouble. Let’s hope for clear skies soon.
