Editorial. This week in Bali.

It seems to be getting busier lately. Well, we’re busier around here, anyway. “If we get busy at The Beat that means town is getting busier, too.” That’s what I would always say in the golden years gone by. (During the 2 decades of the printed beat) The Beat was the barometer of activity in Bali back then and probably still is. Well, maybe not so much nowadays, but that’s what I am feeling right now. Things are definitely on the up. And since we are now very close to July it doesn’t really come as a surprise.

I was just reading an article about Canggu traffic and the apparent hopelessness of the situation. It would seem from the article that authorities see that there are few options for improvement. That makes one wonder. What’s it gonna be like 5 years from now? How’s that short cut going to be?

The roads are too narrow and not enough of them to accommodate the amount of traffic, at certain times, anyway. So, I would imagine trying to regulate those times could be an answer, or the obvious, build more roads, but that’s going to take a lot of money and will power.

However, there is some movement. Hard to say exactly whether it’s the right movement or not, just yet, but down in front of Cafe del Mar, lower Berawa, they are building what looks like a road along the river heading east in the direction of Umalas. I just went down there to check the progress. Needless to say it’s not moving fast, but it is moving. Another project that appears to be going through is the continuation of Jalan Gatsu heading north west right through the back of Canggu. Now, whether that is a parallel road to Raya Canggu is yet to be known, but both of those roads could possibly take a lot of through-traffic from the Canggu and Berawa zone. And with that relieve some of the macet. Any new road is a good idea! Let’s hope so anyway.

Photos Above. Images from Friday night last week. The gang at Desa Kitsune, then Red Ruby and the football. Sunday afternoon at 707, and some images of the road building progress in lower Berawa. Or is it another fancy villa access? Only time will tell.

Last Friday night, we were back at Desa Kitsune, as guests, or better said, friends were in town and we were in entertainment mode. Once again the place was packed out and good times were had with Thess Fischer behind the dials. We also had a date with the World Cup so headed to Red Ruby to check it out. Kick off was 3am. We got there early, but no worries, the club was firing early too. Actually, it was pretty busy already by 1am. Too bad the football result wasn’t ideal for some but watching it out on the Red Ruby Terrace was ideal for everyone. Great atmosphere and it is an excellent spot to watch the late games at least.

Have a good weekend friends.
