Editorial. This week in Bali.

Sad news arrived this week with the passing of another new-Bali pioneer, so to speak, and an old friend to many on the island. This time it was Ian Macaulay who had the call from above and besides pipping me at the post of a Yak award many years ago, being the MC at the annual I’m an Angel fundraiser at Ku De Ta for many years, putting on the best home parties and being a solid member of the Bali social community, he also managed to create the luxury villa accommodation, and possibly had a hand in the entire luxury Bali concept, with his ground-breaking villa business, Elite Havens. From Canada, he spent around 20 years in Bali before moving to Thailand in recent years for personal reasons. He was way too young to leave us at 53 years old and will be greatly missed by many around the region for his bon jovie, business acumen and being just a good friend when needed. May he rest in peace.

Les Toilettes will be closing for renovations after this weekend’s festivities so all fans should get down there this week for their last fix before it gets a makeover. We spoke to Zea from the establishment, who said the entire Les Toilettes will be receiving a complete makeover from top to bottom over the next, at least, four weeks. But don’t fret, Sardine is still open for business and will be holding a variety of Festive Dinners over that period. Saturday night is a big one, with The Gates of Bali hosting big internationals, Deron and Alar in the Sardine outdoor super cool, Bali style, party area, with all your regular favourite Sardine and Les Toilettes DJs also up on the decks doing their thing.

Last Saturday night we went down to Red Ruby to witness the second coming of Stella Bossi. Great times had once again, but as is often pointed out Fat Boy Freddy Faaka, nothing ever seems to be as good the second time. However, it was still packed, the spectacle was as good as ever and we had a blast. All hail the Queen of German Techno! We stopped earlier and on the way to RR at Heaven upstairs bar, which was the perfect way to kick off the night with some very chilled live music from an extremely talented duo on guitars and vocals. I will hopefully find out their names before we post this this.

Happy Valentine’s Day friends. I hope you all find a little bit of love tonight and this weekend!

Photos above are from Dethu’s South East DJing debut, Stella Bossi’s show at Red Ruby, earlier that night at Heaven across the road, and next day in Sanur’s Tandjung Sari Hotel.
