Bali sets a World Standard for Animal Welfare & Conservation

The Mason Elephant Park & Lodge has recently received the first Gold Certification in all of Asia from the Asian Captive Elephants Standards (ACES). ACES is an independent animal welfare enterprise dedicated to ensure all captive elephants are receiving the highest level of welfare possible. Over the last two years, Mason Adventures has worked closely with ACES to fulfil 100% of the mandatory criteria and continue to uphold a sustainable future for the critically-endangered Sumatran elephant. Wild Sumatran elephant numbers are currently estimated at less than 800 and is predicted that the entire population could become extinct in the next 10 years. Although the situation in Sumatra is uncertain at this point, the Mason Elephant Park & Lodge continues to uphold a successful natural breeding program, with the fifth healthy baby born earlier this year in June, adding to a healthy herd of 32 elephants at the park and hopefully ensuring that this beautiful species still has a future for generations to come!
