a ceremony of colour at OMNIA DAYCLUB BALI

a ceremony of colour

an immersive installation at OMNIA DAYCLUB BALI

Aug 31 – Sept 29 2019

Omnia Dayclub is going to be transformed into a beacon of Bali culture during September and you are all invited to experience it. The ceremony of colour is an immersive creative installation that was inspired by the rich traditions of the Balinese ceremony, and being one of Bali’s most stylish day clubs, the installation in Omnia will be delivered with a contemporary twist.

The art project is a collaboration with Bali based creative studio Atelier Seni and executed by Petals by Puri, the ceremony of colour installation features over 4,000 handcrafted pieces creating a transformational immersive experience throughout OMNIA Bali.

Atelier Seni’s Ines Katamso describes her inspiration: “I was inspired by traditional Balinese decoration that is used in everyday life like offerings or on special occasions for “hari raya”. These ornamentations are usually made by hand from palm leaves called lontar, for this project I wanted to combine traditional techniques with modern materials so I mixed it with a digital drawing that has been printed on recyclable paper to create a contemporary interpretation of traditional decorations. The pattern is a modern twist of popular flora paintings that we can find in a Balinese house”.

For the installation OMNIA has collaborated with local craftsmen and women to create:

  • 2 hand crafted barong Ket heads (the mythical creature, symbol of good spirit) that will greet visitors at the entrance to OMNIA.
  • A centrepiece 1.5m x 6m dragon (naga) called Antaboga (the world serpent, the name now translates literally as ‘endless wealth’)
  • 500 handmade contemporary penjor hanging above the dance floor and main deck
  • 10 large penjor sculptures throughout the main deck of OMNIA.
  • 800 classic “keris lontar” creating a bespoke DJ booth installation.

This is surely going to be an art installation not to be missed for both visitors to the island and locals alike. Visit OMNIA throughout September to sample ‘a ceremony of colour’ in all its colourful glory.

OMNIA is open 7 days a week from 11am daily, closing times vary (check with venue). Omnia hosts events with guest DJs and performers every Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
