CHAR CHAR BAR & GRILL

Char Char Bar & Grill is such an amazing addition to the restaurants scene in the Oberoi area, and I’ll tell you why.
From the street you see a flight of steps where you can chill with friends over a Happy Hour’s drink or two and some tasty light bites while watching the hustle & bustle going down at Jl Kayu Aya, one of Semiyak’s hottest spots for local and visiting tourists to dine and hang out.
My almost teen son and I visited for the first time and while the ground floor, air-conditioned area of the restaurant looked real nice, we both decided to enjoy our dinner on the spacious and cozy rooftop floor – both of which are recommended if you are there to enjoy a proper meal.

I personally liked the big open kitchen concept and the salad bar station where they have the Mongolian grill. You can pick whatever you like from rice pork belly, duck noodle and beef/pork bulgogi from the range of meats they have and if you are more of a seafood lover, they have a load of fresh fish also available. You can also build your own platter of maximum four types of meat and vegetables that comes with carbo & sauce of your choice for IDR 95K. They also have super deal Mongolian dishes such as Dark – soy pork noodle, Beef fried rice, sautéed beef & butter rice and sweet sour chicken that comes with complimentary glass of wine.

Char Char has so much to offer on their menu and what’s catching more of my attention was how most of the meals are modestly priced.
I was very excited to explore the flavors as our meals arrived on the table. The 12 hour suvee “Lamb Shank” for me that came with mashed potato, veggies and mushroom red wine sauce and my son’s all time favorite (Yep, fried rice); his Char Char Pork fried rice looking pretty good with stirred fried jasmine rice, ham, bacon, carrot, onion, green pea and fried egg came with a good looking grilled pork chop on the side. Fried rice never looked so good. It was served together with summer windy, which is coconut water mixed with assorted fruits for my son and the exotic blue for me, of course.
My lamb was phenomenal, the meat was tender, juicy and tasty all at once – and deliciously smooth mashed potato totally complemented it perfectly – to me it was a happy bite after bite of heaven! and a sip of exotic blue in between bites was perfect and most importantly refreshing!

My son’s Char Char Pork fried rice was really delicious too, the pork chop was cooked perfectly and he loved every bite of it.
While waiting for our dessert to arrive, we enjoyed some more of Char Char’s delicious prawn chips they served earlier as we settled at the table. It was so tasty, we couldn’t have enough of it. Our chocolate tart arrived and as it was placed on the table, the rain suddenly started to fall. For an instant I thought we would all have to move downstairs to the ground area, until I saw the electric roofing technology begin rolling out the roof and covering us from the rain in just a few seconds, which both me and especially my son found quite fascinating. Char Char totally have made another level of open air dining – and oh, our dessert was lovely.. the home-made tart filled with dark chocolate ganache & orange custard was yummy, the banana-calamansi ice cream that came with it made it a refreshingly sweet finish to our fabulous dinner.

Checkout their House Specialty menu if you are looking for something more. They have Bacon King Prawn, Meat platter, Lobster Thermidor, Beef Tar Tar and more on the list for you to try. They also have a selection of pastas, sandwiches & burritos, as well as Garden Gobbler menu for those who fancy vegetarian meals – and beside, they have a wide selection of desserts to choose from. Char Char’s Happy Hour is happening from 3pm – 10pm with 50% off imported spirit, whiskey & bourbon and classic cocktails you wouldn’t want to miss.
Char Char Bar & Grill is a true combination of great food, great price and a whole lot of great atmosphere.
