DJ Story #15: Martin Denev | Bulgaria

Hi Martin, when did you become a Bali resident DJ?
More than seven years ago.

Tell us your background in music.
I went to classical piano school in Bulgaria. Then went on to study Jazz in Rotterdam Conservatory (Holland) and Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA). After this I studied Latin piano in Santiago De Cuba, and got into keyboards, synths and electronics. I started playing keys around the world, festivals and such, combining with quite a bit of production and releases on various labels. Eventually I got into DJ’ing, so I could close the circle.

Favourite styles to spin?
Eclectic styles! .. disco, house, afro, Brazil, funk, electronica, latin.

Current Bali residencies
Ku De Ta, Rock Bar, Manarai, Azul, El Kabron.

(complete the sentence) .. “I love to play in Bali because ….”
I love the Sunset shifts. Looking at the ocean, feeling the breeze and sound tracking the sun – doesn’t get much better than that.

Thank you Martin … see you around the island. Where can we follow you?
