DJ Story #14: DJ Ari | Bali

Hi Ari, when did you become a Bali resident DJ?
2010. At that time my job was assistant manager at Echo Beach House in Canggu. I compiled a playlist of songs for the venue when I was asked to replace the DJ who wasn’t present. That’s where my gig started and at that moment I decided to take professional DJ school along with offers of events .. It worked!

Tell us your background in music.
I grew up in the era of Guns N Roses & Nirvana, classic pop, funk and disco 80-90s. I call it the generation that absored the most lines of time. 70s to millennials I enjoyed it. I used to play drums in a band because my friends saw me knocking on tables and they said I had a good beat. So this is all about music taste and having a good beat hahaha.

Favourite styles to spin?
I like all types of music and all genres, I love it. But because I come from a beach restaurant that from morning till closing played chilled out, electric pop, buddha bar, pop 80s, funk & soul, this became my typical style. I also love nu-disco, deep-house and chill out/lounge.

Current Bali residencies
Echo Beach Club, Scallywags (Gili Air & Trawangan), Azul, Tiigo.

(complete the sentence) .. “I love to play in Bali because ….”
I love Bali and my hobby is my job.

Thankyou Ari, see you around the island. Where can we follow you?
