DJ Story #18: RaySoo | Malaysia

Hi Ray, when did you become a Bali resident DJ?
Since April 2018.

Tell us your background in music.
Began buying vinyl at age 13 then learned to DJ from my brother Tom who was taking DJ classes at the time. I then got into electronic/house music when first visiting the legendary Zouk Singapore when it opened it’s door in 1991 and started exploring music widely.. Moved to London for nine years which was an amazing place for music and experienced and learned so much about the diversity of music (this was pre-internet era). I then moved back to Kuala Lumpur and was offered a residency at Zouk when it re-opened in 2004. Subsequently lived in Berlin for a while which was and still truly is the capital of electronic music and club cultur. And toured extensively around Asia, Europe & Australia. I’ve also been running my label ‘Love International’ for 11 years with numerous releases and a debut album in 2016. I’m a lover of all good music.

Favourite styles to spin?
house, tech-house, techno, disco.

Current Bali residencies
Red Ruby, Hatch, Omnia, La Brisa.

(complete the sentence) .. “I love to play in Bali because ….”
.. of the beautiful weather and people and high level of appreciation for good music and amazing nature especially at the beaches and cliffs.

Thank you Ray, see you around the island. Where can we follow you?
