Pete Herbert & Martin Denev | Made in the Shade

8/10 nu-disco inferno
Bringing another dose of that synth-heavy nu-disco sound that he’s so well known for, DJ par excellance Pete Herbert has joined forces with Bali based musician Martin Denev and finally got round to recording a follow up album right here on the Island of the Gods.
Made in The Shade is a purely Bali product, inspired by the tropical days and heated nights of our beautiful little party island, so be prepared for a smooth string of tracks that sound as good slouched on the sofa at home as they do while dancing in the sunshine or under disco lights.
Both talented producers firmly leave their mark on the LP, which naturally encapsulates all that’s good about their work – think colourful synthesizers, loved-up pianos, dreamy chords, rich analogue synth-bass, Italo-disco style arpeggio lines, disco cowbells and an saucer-eyed Balearic mindset – while delivering a string of superb, sun-fired tracks.
The highlights come thick and fast, from the classic Italo-house surge of ‘Washed Up’ and T-Coy-does-nu-disco cheeriness of ‘Night Boat’, to the soul-flecked tingle of Robert Owens hook-up ‘Pass Me By’ and groovy, acid-flecked deepness of proto-house shuffler ‘Time’.
The new album is out now on UK-based label Nang Records, and available on vinyl and DL on the major platforms, so get it while it’s hot and let this little gem soundtrack ya high season.
