Editorial. This week in Bali.

Halloween is all around and there is a definite some party mode in the air! Last weekend it kicked off at Uluwatu’s Tabu with a very impressive set up—the decorations and costumes were intense and a full house was there to take it all in. You may have seen the story recap we posted last Sunday, or maybe you missed it. There are loads of stories being posted on our IG account—and you never know what you are going to miss, so make sure you keep tuned in. So, Friday is the main day, of course. The 31st of October is Halloween (no matter what anyone says) and just about every venue has an event on that night. Loads of prizes are up for grabs, but of course, unless you spend a lot of time, effort and money on your costume, you don’t stand a chance of getting your hands on the cash as so many people take it very seriously, but, and it’s a big BUT, Halloween is one of the busiest times on the island and this year falling on a Friday, it is sure to be bigger than ever! It’s a good time to get out and amongst it, my friends. Enjoy!

Wednesday night we were out finding a bit of the festive again. First of all dropping by Bella in Berawa, where I had never been before, even though I live around the corner and have heard so much about their famed Wednesday nights. It is a fashionable place and I must say trying to get in is a true mission as the queue stretches up the street and kind of early, too. It wasn’t even 11pm and the place was packed. We were there to catch my boy, Jon, better known as Papü, play some tunes in the kitchen, no less. It is a fun place, but was a little bit too cramped for us. So, after one drink we kept moving and onto the show that actually got me out of the house. Terminus at Black Box 88. So, we wound our way through Berawa, Umalas and eventually Kerobokan on our trusty steads, or motorbikes, till we arrived at the great plane in the sky, better known as Gate 88. I had spoken to the organiser of the Terminus event a week before and written up a story/interview about it, so I had skin in the game, tickets in my pocket and a desire to find out more. Inside it was just getting busy. The DJ decks were set up in the middle of the room in what resembled a cage that looked a bit like a boxing ring. And the DJ was not holding any punches, blasting out what they call hard techno at a rate of 170 plus bpm. Pheww, it’s not for the lighthearted, but man, it is contagious and like everyone else inside we began to get a groove on, or maybe more of a shuffle in my case. The drinks flowed, the action continued and the beats pounded. We eventually met the charming DJ Moji, or Lindsay, take your pick, who I spoke to during the week and more drinks flowed. The pounding tunes, the highs and lows, all reminded me a bit of the DJ Cafe psy-trance, but a little bit of EDM thrown in to spice it up. Whatever it is, the music works and the place was rocking with what appeared to be a very friendly, connected crowd. It felt like a real community. I love anything new, and this place Terminus has whatever it is – ‘je ne sais pas’ – in spades!

Have a good weekend you all!
