Editorial. This week in Bali.

Pretty hectic week so far. I suppose that’s what happens in the summer season. Even though you wouldn’t believe we are in summer if you checked the weather lately. Sometimes this week it felt like we were in the middle of the wet season. But it is the dry season so the rain won’t stick around for ever, or at least it shouldn’t.

Last Friday, Fibrian CRT and I were down at Batubelig beach spinning some tunes in a café right by the surf. A bunch of friends were hanging out and it was great times overlooking the ocean. Later we moved right next door to the W Seminyak Bali for their big summer event Summer Soundwave. It was busy and the guest international DJs were banging out the blasters to the loving crowd. According to Jose, F&B Director at W, there will be an extensive renovation of Woobar coming soon. That will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Saturday night, we stopped by to check Jazzerimo’s set at Sardine. Very cool set up, the bar is amazing and continues being one of the most stylish spots in town, but I don’t think the rain right at the beginning of the night helped much – especially with my soaking shoes all night long – and I have never seen a dance floor empty out so fast. Not because of the DJ, but because they open the Les Toilettes bar at 12.30 and bang, people are gone inside. Talk about ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ ! Later we moved onto Red Ruby and pulled an all-nighter. Bless the home of house and techno!

Last night, we had an invite to the Desa Kitsune first anniversary, which was again a stylish event with the gliteratti of Bali nightlife in attendance. They have really made a name for themselves over the past year, mainly with their Tuesday and Friday night shows with some of the biggest names in electronic music, but it is also open 7 nights a week. Let’s not forget that. The restaurant is next level in many ways. Later we dropped over to The Shady Pig and their anniversary week. That whole area of Berawa is now officially pumping, with punters everywhere, lines of people entering all venues, just going nuts from after 11pm every night of the week. Shady was also packed. Later we moved down Kuta way to one of our favourite after-hours clubs. I’ll tell you more about that another time.

So from what I can see in my travels in this past week, Bali nightlife is doing just fine. We will be heading to Savaya this evening, wish us luck, and hopefully the tukang hujan are on their game. Have a good weekend!
