Editorial. This week in Bali.

As we all saw during last week, the demolition of the warungs and businesses at Bingin Beach went ahead on Monday and they say they have one month to complete the job. There has been a large public outcry for the loss of what some view as a tourist landmark in the south of Bali, and it would seem others view it as an eyesore and a case of the natural beauty of the island being returned. I suppose I’m in the middle where I don’t really mind either way. It wasn’t really hurting anyone being like that down there and employed a lot of people I would imagine, but I do recall the pristine cliffs and beaches of that area many years ago rather fondly, too.  But, in the end, there are laws to follow and I suppose they should. Meanwhile, I don’t think there are many 100% legal operations and structures on the island, so it is probably hard for anyone to cast the first stone, but this week they did.

So, what happens to the rest of the beaches down that way? Look at Uluwatu itself. It’s kinda crazy down there, but kinda beautiful in its own way, too.

In any case, if some deluxe hotel or beach club arrives on that Bingin Cliff in the near future I imagine there will be an even greater outcry again.

And, by the way, I don’t think we have seen the last play in that entire game down there. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next month or so.

Speaking of that part of town, we were right there on the cliff last Saturday sunset and evening with El Kabron’s Techno Flower Party with guest DJ Rebuke once again on the dials. What a show that is! It is such a stylish venue, sunset and has everything going for it. For me, one of the classiest events on the calendar, and man, did we have a good time, or what! Never having quite enough, we ended up in the home of house and techno, Red Ruby until stumps. Ohhh geez, here we go, high season on the way!
