It was quite a busy time over the past week, many friends were in town and the festivities bubbled over all week long. Starting at Morabito last Friday with my old mate Nico and my son Papu headlining the show with Jay Mugeli. Bottles were flying and outrageousness began after the teq shots arrived. I’m sure I swore off those little devils after the last debacle in early January and Pak Kadek’s birthday celebrations. It obviously takes a lot for me to learn! I must be honest and say I never really get the back stage part of Morabito where people congregate around tightly packed tables behind the DJ. Wouldn’t it make more sense being in front of the DJ? You know, like everyone in the party together. But what would I know and don’t get me started on VIP areas. That always ends up in tears.
Speaking about VIP, I also had the gracious opportunity of attending my friend Hamid and his lovely wife Khalisha’s wedding at Ayana last Sunday. It was a beautiful wedding and reception in the gardens of the resort overlooking Jimbaran Bay and with such a fine bunch of people, many previously unknown to me, but soon becoming the greatest of friends. I even came across an Errol Flynn doppelganger, which made me laugh at least, since I have been reading the real man’s biography lately, but maybe not all really following what the heck I was going on about. The after party was next level and reminded me of many times-gone-by spent with Hamid and others in Jakarta’s north. The staff of the After Club private room apparently told the groom the next day that in all the time they had been open they had never seen such a party before. Good to see the gathering impressed all and sundry.
I then got the call on Tuesday, as the tribe was gathering again and we ended up on a table in Desa Kitsune for their anniversary and DJ Lee Burridge on the decks. It’s crazy how busy that place gets on a Tuesday night, but I imagine it just goes to show how many people are here in town – both tourists and people living here!
As I said to the bride Khalisha that Tuesday night, if it wasn’t the very best wedding I’ve been to, it surely was the best I can recall!
