Editorial. This week in Bali.

Sometimes it’s hard being me. Just keep on going, just keep on doing it. Things used to be quite different in the pre-social media days when we had a staff of many and printing a magazine every two weeks – hitting the streets on Fridays. Things would build up to a deadline crescendo and then you were off, free as birds for a few days. Wonderful times. These days there are minimal staff, you could say too close to zero, and it never really ends. The internet never sleeps and there is never a deadline, except for this editorial and The Beat Update, of course. Thank goodness for that. The kicker is there is hardly any money in it either. While the tech giants in Silicon Valley take most of everything and we are left fighting over the remaining spoils of things like guest list and ticket commissions, which are mostly hidden and pilfered by nasty, little, scrooge-like venue managers, thankfully not all, it makes you wonder what type of dystopian world we are going to end up with. You could probably use this as a model as to what is on the way in the future when AI takes most of the jobs and especially creative jobs around the planet. Sometimes I feel the machines will be doing all the fun stuff while humans will end up doing the dishes or cleaning up after them. Bloody shame, isn’t it, but there doesn’t appear to be anything one can do about it other than turn your back and walk away. Never one to quick, we keep on fighting.

Photos Above: The new Madan restaurant is a surprising well of goodness; food and cocktails. I will be posting a story about that soon. Other images from Papü and Matthias Meyer at Morabito last week.

Talking about backs, during the week I got my dogs down to the beach, first time in ages, and while I was washing the sand off one of them back at the house I felt a little snap or soft click in my lower back. Oops, that didn’t feel right. I used to have back problems years ago and it was the main reason I gave up surfing, but it has been a very long time, you could say decades, since then and man, it feels like I’ve been thrust back to that moment. Boom, the bloody back is back! Hopefully, it pulls itself together quickly and if anyone knows a massage specialist for such things please let me know.

This weekend is kind of busy. Tonight the boys from Befores & The Beat Radio Bali will be spinning some tunes at a new resto on Jl Petitenget called Madan from 8.30pm. They have great food there and some very cool opening offers right now. Hope to see you there! Also Sunday sunset at W Bali Seminyak they have highly acclaimed DJ producer Jody Wisternoff doing his thing. Not to be missed

Have a good weekend you all!
