Editorial. This week in Bali.

Things are beginning to heat up for summer!

You can feel it in the air, on the streets, in the bars and clubs around town. We just need the rain to stop for a few days, or even a full week would be totally amazing. Damn, you think you are into a dry stretch and a couple of days later, kaboom, down it comes again. But anyway, there are more people around the island right now. That is for sure. You can feel it. Last night I was dropping a friend off in Kuta and even there it seems to be getting busier. Maybe they are just passing thru on their way to Uluwatu or Canggu—just lost souls in the hubbub of the old epicentre of Bali tourism. I must admit it is still fun to get down there once in a while to check that the old you is still kicking. One thing I did notice last night is that the small bar scene is happening down there again. That’s what Kuta was all about before the megalithic clubs came along and ate the entire market until there was nothing left for anyone else. No small business could stand up to the competition, and in the end, there was nothing for anyone and they all closed, including the mega clubs because no one was interested. The punters moved on to places with smaller and cheaper bar culture, and the fancier ones too, of course. It would seem the same story is repeating itself in those new places again now, though. Let’s see what happens. Another thing I noticed was that the taxis were still slowing down the traffic thru the main drag of Jalan Legian, making it rather painful to get though Kuta once again. You know, with the Covid slow down it was the perfect opportunity to clean that up, build some taxi ranks and keep the traffic flowing. But. There’s always a BUT. Of course, nothing happened, and if Kuta does get busy again it will have the same taxi problem as before.

For those who like the fancier end of town, exceptional dining and exclusive partying, don’t miss the Miss Fish Matsuri 3 day event this weekend (it started yesterday, Thursday, BTW) featuring a special Japanese culinary menu and DJ producers from around the world. Tonight Friday – Savage & She, Saturday – Divolly + Markwood.

It is Friday the 13th tonight. Just keep outta trouble is all I can say. Have a good weekend!
