Last week was interesting, but not so eventful. I’ve been trying to drink less lately, but that doesn’t seem to be working so well, especially after I was invited to a series of wine lunches and dinners on last weekend by an old buddy, who I hadn’t seen in ages. The deal was they needed pics for their suppliers and patrons of people drinking their Italian wines from Barolo at their events in Bali they organised at the last minute and that’s when we got the call. It would appear these kind of things only happen on this island, and of course, one is always grateful. Barbera d’ Alba, Barolo, Gavi (white) and Moscato d’ Asti (light sparkling) were on the wine list and I was there not once, but three times over the weekend. Hope I didn’t wear out my welcome, but it was exactly the session I needed – even while trying to drink less. But drinking fine wines obviously doesn’t count. In the process I visited three great restaurants in my neighbourhood that I had never been to before – actually I mostly cook at home, in any case. Lova Café, Sababa and Irma by Bacaro are all around Berawa and all offer substantially tasty food. Especially the pizza at Irma – wow, so good. I will definitely be ordering from there again. The conversations were light, deep and everything betweeen, with old and newly made friends. Such a fine weekend.
On Sunday evening I also dropped down to Damaria for the first time in ages, with an old, but new buddy and Damaria’s new Sono Afro house night appears to have found their crowd quickly. It was the second time they held that show and it was quite ramai – busy, but not over the top. The decor had been changed up and was also looking very cool too. Worth a look, indeed.

This Saturday is a busy night around the island. Two 8 year anniversaries, no less, at venues in completely different parts of town. Ulu Cliffhouse down in Uluwatu and La Brisa up in Echo Beach, Canggu. Take your pick! Also, Aussie alternative rockers, Rum Jungle at The Bench in the Bingin area and an enormous show at Café del Mar, the famed RnB crooner, Sean Paul. All the details are in the beat events pages.
Have a good weekend you all!
