Speaking of Rip Curl, 2017 marks the 14th anniversary of their collaboration with Oney Anwar. The Sumbawa-born surfer has extended his contract with the surfing brand — a partnership that started when he was just nine-years-old. Oney himself took to the sport at age seven, and in 2007 he was sent by Rip Curl to Australia to train alongside the best surfers in the world, eventually mentored by three-time World Champion, Mick Fanning. “My goal in 2017 is to finish the year in the top 5 on the World Qualifying Series rankings and qualify for 2018 World Championship Tour,” he says.
