Rumahan serves a mix of South East Asian food, which means food adorned with herbs and spices, exotic both in aroma and ingredients. Such is the case with the ‘Bebek Ungkep Rempah Rumahan’ which is a slow braised duck dish. As it was served, steaming hot on the table, the spicy aroma mixed with the scent of the steamed banana leafs which wrapped the duck while it was covered by herbs and spices and braised overnight. The result is a deliciously tender duck with a less fatty taste. The dish was accompanied by a small portion of snake bean plecing, which is a variation of the local vegetable side dish placing kangkung, but with snake bean replacing the water spinach. Also served with it is the sambal goreng bongkot, which were emphasised by the freshly exotic taste of the local indonesian flower named kecombrang or bongkot, also known as ginger flower. The set dish was then complimented with a light but savoury papaya & jackfruit soup. All in all, the food is a perfect example of the meeting of traditional & contemporary South Asian cooking, with the very reasonable price of Rp. 65.000++.
