Artful Ink

Look
Walking into Artful Ink is like walking into a cool alt coffee shop with its dark walls and sweet murals on the first floor. The reception area is pretty chilled and pretty much serves as a lounge for anybody hanging out at the studio. Upstairs is where all the real magic takes place with multiple stations where they put ink under your skin. There’s a super chilled water cooler vibe with people getting work done, worked on and just generally hanging out. The balcony offers a welcoming place to smoke in between getting tattooed.
Feel
Artful Ink focuses solely on tattoos and respects the process of creating custom body art for the discerning customer. Bookings are usually made a week or two ahead of time normally towards the tail end of a Bali holiday. Walk ins are allowed, but you need to get lucky. The three Ukrainian and two local artists go through a design process with the customer and designs can be overlaid on Photoshop. Artful boasts being able to accommodate any style (including Sanskrit translations by a Balinese priest) and once you’re satisfied with your design, they’ll print out a stencil and get to work. They charge Rp 1.2 million for the first hour and Rp 1.4 million for every additional hour it takes to complete your tattoo. After your tattoo is complete, they give you a post treatment goodie bag that includes, instructions, sterilizing cream, anti bacterial soap, a water bottle and some candy. They also offer free touch ups.
Ingredients
The tattoo guns, needles and inks are some of the best you’re going to get in the world at Artful Ink. They boast a full selection of All Prima tattoo ink including vegan options. Everything in the studio is imported and single use. There’s a shelf full of hygienically sealed grips and needles ready to use.
