Yuki does it all, DJs, wake skates, surfs and apparently cooks too. TB had a few questions for him.
Tell us about yourself.
Hi my name is Yuki, people get really confused of where I’m from.
So, we hear you’re a bit of a renaissance man, you’re a professional DJ, your the Indonesian wake skate champion, and sponsored by O’Neill for surfing. How do you find the time to do all this?
Renaissance man? Haha well, It’s not too difficult… Surfing and wakeskating is somewhat in between. You’ll see me at the Bali Wake Park when the surf is flat and you know where I’ll be when there is swell! With the DJing, it’s always been an evening thing. The only thing I find difficult is to sleep well, I don’t get enough of that.
Is there anything else you’re awesome at that we don’t know about?
I can probably say that I’m a really good cook! Haha, but never ever had the time to prove it to anyone, not even my girlfriend, haha!
How did you get into each of those activities?
Surf: My mom was a hip surfer back in the day, so I followed her trail.
DJ: I was one of those “lame boys” at junior high, I thought being a DJ and starting to spin my first gig at school parties will make me a little more cooler, haha… Did it work? I’m not sure, but I ended up dating this really hot blondie I remember.
Wake skate: My Dad loves to ski, he took me to the local wake park and from the first time I got hooked on the wake skate.
If you had to pick only one of those things, what would you pick?
Surfing definitely, to me it’s a way of life. It brings happiness, and happiness will always bring great vibes and good luck. I believe in that.
Look to the left, what do you see?
Condoms, what the hell?
Dogs or cats? Why?
Dogs of course… Cats bullshit to much.
List your top 5 tracks of all time.
Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon”, Mark Morrison’s “Return of the Mack” Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”, Keyshia Cole’s “Shoulda Let You Go”, and Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”
If you could have infinite money or infinite charisma, which would you chose?
Sex.
Promote yourself.
I’m working on a documentary for a webTV with a friend of mine who is a film producer. It’s going to be called Tropical Living and will be out by end of December! Look out for the link on O’Neill Indonesia’s Facebook page.
You can also catch Yuki playing over at Jenja Foyer on Friday nights.
