COLUMN. Tony Montana looks at the turn of the century electronic

1999 was a very historic year for House music .. as the 90’s drew to a close, so did many of the traditional ways of making house .. new software was being developed and the transition from the warm analogue sound to the more mechanised digital sound was about to emerge .. House would go deeper, darker and a lot less soulful .. I guess soulful House was losing steam and in the early 2000s people would turn their back on it .. enough piano riffs, enough diva vocals .. time for something new .. and so it was.

But what an epic year for House 1999 was .. just look at the song selection on mix 1 .. huge track, after huge track, after huge track .. just a monster year .. full of euphoria .. all our hands raised in the air .. that feeling, like you were a star .. House music at it’s finest.

Kind of a shame the 90’s had to end, we really had the time of our lives .. the 70’s 80’s 90’s is when all the music was made, and from now on there would be a lot of digitalisation, minus the soul.

Me personally, i was lost deep in the vibe of House .. Ministry Of Sound was my weekend haunt followed by many an after-party .. I also went to Ibiza for the 1st time and was hooked, and started to frequent Miami Beach for the legendary Winter Music Conference.

Big Year – Big Music – Big Vibes – Big Destinations .. we spent a lot of time getting high and dancing and things were a bit blurry, but i don’t regret a thing and would do it all again tomorrow! .. these were the greatest of times and i am so lucky to have been there .. so god damn lucky.

to everyone that was there and lived it … House Music 1999 … this is how it went down
