The Open | Now – January 28 | Amandari

Compelled to protect the ‘mula’, the indigenous people of Bali, as well as their culture, Yvonne Pekerti collaborated with respected elder, Wayan Sukrata, on a single dwelling restoration in Northern Bali. Fully-supported in her vision to strengthen their culture through this project, the artist was assisted by the entire community of Pendawa in the restoration. This exhibition at Amandari recaptures a simpler time. Themed “The Open”, it displays a glimpse of past; the light supplied by slits in the woven bamboo and cloth, dancing off the fire singed wooden beams and the door held ajar by a rock.
