Tonyraka Art Gallery currently presents two simultaneous painting exhibitions by two Korean artists; “Always”, a solo painting exhibition by Yang Mikyeong, and “Suddenly”, a solo painting exhibition by Jung Yongsung. Both lives in Jeju, a volcanic island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, known widely for its beautiful natural landscape, as well as its dark history of atrocities in the wake of World War II. Their works are inspired by the nature and the people of their island of birth. In her paintings, Mikyeong captures the sensation of internal forces and rhythm, animating ordinary and mundane appearance where lines flow and colors drift. Meanwhile, Yongsung works in a painstakingly detailed manner, with reduced coloration echoing the mystery and the misery of man and nature.
