Without realizing, artificial walls among communities of painters are built between two opposing polarities; either the educated against the autodidact, or the modern against the traditional. Seeing this, Wayan Budiarta has decided that he would like to be in between. In his “50%” exhibition at Titian Art Space, he presents the dichotomy of these two man-made oppositions. Meanwhile, he also gives expressions of both the benefits and disadvantages of his journey along his chosen path. Interestingly, he concludes that being on the edge of these boundaries is the best place to be. Through this exhibition, he also tries to challenge our viewpoint; our way to view the world around us and, in the end, our view of ourselves.
